The Flaming Emeralds were an underground 1970s and early 1980s soul/funk group based out of Detroit, Michigan. Though they never achieved mainstream national fame like Motown acts, they hold a revered place among Northern Soul and Modern Soul record collectors.

The group's line-up featured vocalists and musicians including Gerald Ervin, Kenny Goodman, Al Martin, Glynis Martin, Rory Johnson, and Chris Knight. Members of the band routinely served as backing singers, touring band members, and studio musicians for both The Detroit Emeralds and their sibling group The Floaters.

When The Detroit Emeralds began splintering in the mid-1970s, group member James Mitchell and writer/arranger Marvin Willis began working with and producing outside Detroit talent. Mitchell helped younger local talent grow, intentionally channelling the "Emeralds" name and signature Detroit soul sound into the next generation. 

Mitchell and Willis co-wrote and produced this 45 for The Flaming Emeralds.  On the UK Northern Soul scene the flip side instrumental was the favourite play.

V.I.P.-25033 (2012) The Mynah Birds were a Canadian R&B/Garage band active 1964 through to 1967.  The band is notable due to a few of its famous band members, namely Neil Young, Rick Matthews (aka Rick James) and Bruce Palmer. The Kinks Drivin' / Mindless Child Of Motherhood BMG BMGCAT407BOX6 (2019) This Kinks' 45 was originally released in 1969 on the Pye record label in the UK.  The A side was taken from the album "Arthur (Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire)," more often referred to as simply "Arthur."  "Arthur" was a concept album, written as a soundtrack to an intended TV show that was never produced.  Basically it revolved around the story of Arthur Morgan, a carpet-layer, who was based on Ray and guitarist Dave Davies' brother-in-law Arthur Anning who emigrated with their sister Rose to Australia in 1964.   Her departure devastated Ray, and it inspired him to write the song "Rosy Won't You Please Come Home" which was released on the 1966 album "Face to Face". The Animals The Animals Is Here EP Columbia SEG 8374 (1964) An early EP from the original lineup of the band namely vocalist Eric Burdon, guitarist Hilton Valentine, bass guitarist Chas Chandler, keyboardist Alan Price and drummer John Steel.  The group formed in Newcastle upon Tyne during 1962 and 1963 when Burdon joined the Alan Price Rhythm and Blues Combo and they performed as the Alan Price Combo. They later changed their name to the Animals. They were supposedly dubbed "animals" because of their wild stage act, and the name stuck. Known for their gritty, bluesy sound, they balanced tough, rock-edged pop singles against rhythm-and-blues-oriented album material and were part of the British Invasion of the US. FLAC
