Time Out

Its that time of the year again when I jump on a plane and take some R&R on a foreign shore.  This year is a bit of a mega trip so there will be no posts for a few weeks but I will be back!

If you are wondering where I might be heading there is a big, big clue in the last post (& the picture below).  I expect to return with a few special 45s that will appear in the future on the blog.

If you are interested in what I have you can look at my 45cat page in the link below and let me know if there is anything you particularly would like to appear on the blog.

So in the meanwhile, take it easy, keep spinning those 45s and check back here later on in the month to see what is next out of my collection.

The Mynah Birds It's My Time / Go On And Cry V.I.P. V.I.P.-25033 (2012) The Mynah Birds were a Canadian R&B/Garage band active 1964 through to 1967.  The band is notable due to a few of its famous band members, namely Neil Young, Rick Matthews (aka Rick James) and Bruce Palmer. In early 1966 the band was signed to Motown records and recorded this 45 which was scheduled to be released on Motown's subsidiary label V.I.P. that May.  The story goes that the band found out that their manager had stolen the advance they received from Motown so they fired him.   In return he informed Motown that Rick James was AWOL from the US Navy.  Rick was subsequently arrested by the Navy and jailed.  Motown shelved the single and cancelled plans for an album so Young and Palmer famously sold their musical equipment, bought a hearse to drive to LA and once there helped form Buffalo Springfield. The Kinks Drivin' / Mindless Child Of Motherhood BMG BMGCAT407BOX6 (2019) This Kinks' 45 was originally released in 1969 on the Pye record label in the UK.  The A side was taken from the album "Arthur (Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire)," more often referred to as simply "Arthur."  "Arthur" was a concept album, written as a soundtrack to an intended TV show that was never produced.  Basically it revolved around the story of Arthur Morgan, a carpet-layer, who was based on Ray and guitarist Dave Davies' brother-in-law Arthur Anning who emigrated with their sister Rose to Australia in 1964.   Her departure devastated Ray, and it inspired him to write the song "Rosy Won't You Please Come Home" which was released on the 1966 album "Face to Face". The Animals The Animals Is Here EP Columbia SEG 8374 (1964) An early EP from the original lineup of the band namely vocalist Eric Burdon, guitarist Hilton Valentine, bass guitarist Chas Chandler, keyboardist Alan Price and drummer John Steel.  The group formed in Newcastle upon Tyne during 1962 and 1963 when Burdon joined the Alan Price Rhythm and Blues Combo and they performed as the Alan Price Combo. They later changed their name to the Animals. They were supposedly dubbed "animals" because of their wild stage act, and the name stuck. Known for their gritty, bluesy sound, they balanced tough, rock-edged pop singles against rhythm-and-blues-oriented album material and were part of the British Invasion of the US. FLAC
