Kade Simon (1937-1985), better known as Lord Brynner, was born in Erin, Trinidad. Inspired by the actor Yul Brynner, he adopted the name and also the shaved head and he became a popular calypsonian in the late 1950s.
Having joined the Army (West Indian Regiment) he was posted to Jamacia where he continued to perform until he returned to Trinidad in 1962. That same year he won the Trinidad & Tobago Independence Calypso Contest in August 1962 with the aptly-themed "Trinidad and Tobago Independence", beating the likes of Mighty Sparrow, Nap Hepburn and the Mighty Bomber.
Although known more as a calypso singer he also recorded many ska tunes releasing in total over 50 45s worldwide in his career.
This American released 45 on the New York based Hilary label uses the carol "Little Drummer Boy" for inspiration with the flip side being a ska cover of Joe Simon's big hit "Games People Play".
