Andy Ross formed his orchestra in 1962.  Andy was a classically trained pianist who first played with the Scottish band The Kimbos before becoming the leader of the resident band at The Raith Ballroom in Kirkaldy where they played three nights a week and supported the visiting headline acts.  

They also played at The Carlton in Kirkaldy 1963 as support to The Beatles at a gig that had been originally scheduled for The Raith Ballroom, but The Beatles manager Brian Epstein had just made a ruling that the group should only appear in theatres so the show was moved to the bigger venue. Over 1,500 kids packaged out the venue for each of the two shows. 

By 1967 Andy had moved south, along with most of the thirteen strong members of the band, to take up a residency at The Locarno in Birmingham. There he developed the James Last-style of medleys which was so popular he was soon moved to London to lead the house band at The Lyceum in The Strand. 

It was then that Andy and his band became part of the BBC TV “Come Dancing” show, eventually retiring after thirty years as Music Director of the show.

Various Artists Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited EP Polydor 9839472 (2006) An English language tribute album to the works of the late Serge Gainsbourg was released in 2006 and from the album this limited edition EP was produced.  The actual release is not an EP per say but 2 x 7" vinyl discs in a gatefold sleeve (normally referred to as a double pack). Regardless of the format name here are 4 great English versions of Gainsbourg's work.  Tracks 1-3 are featured on the original album whilst track 4 was only (initially) available via this "EP".  My favourite is Cat Power & Karen Elson's "I Love You (Me Either)" the English version of "Je T'aime Moi Non Plus" .   The song was written in 1967 for Brigitte Bardot and she sang on the original recorded version .  Although she was in a relationship with Gainsbourg, she was at the time of recording still married to the German millionaire playboy Gunter Sachs. Vibravoid Kraut Rock Sensation EP Fruits De Mer CRUSTACEAN 07 (2009) Another great slab of vinyl from the Fruits De Mer label featuring the band Vibravoid who hail from Dusseldorf, Germany. The original plan for the label was for long lost rock classics to be re-released however licensing the music was I assume very difficult and expensive so the label moved into having rare and classic rock being re-recorded as cover versions. This EP was a limited release of 300 copies so finding a copy these days is difficult.  On the EP the tracks being covered are: Kraftwerk's Ruckzuck  Amon Duul II's Eye Shaking King Can's Mother Sky Mashantra's Rauchkraut FLAC
