Produced by Rupie Edwards this 45 was originally released in Jamaica credited to Soul King which was in-fact Winston Blake & Errol Bailey.  Winston also recorded using the names Blake Boy and also Judge Winchester but on this UK release his birth name was used.

The flip is by The Itals (Basil Spence & Errol Carter), a reggae band active between 1969-71.  There was a later Jamaican band called The Itals who were formed in 1976 by Alvin Porter.

As with most early UK reggae singles this one did not sell greatly hence it has become fairly rare.

The original plan for the label was for long lost rock classics to be re-released however licensing the music was I assume very difficult and expensive so the label moved into having rare and classic rock being re-recorded as cover versions. Marion Ryan  (4 February 1931 – 15 January 1999)  was a popular British singer in the 50s & 60s, once called "the Marilyn Monroe of popular song".  Most of her output is referred to as run of the mill pop but the "A" side of a 1968 release, although not experiencing any chart success at the time, found acceptance during the 1970s on the Northern Soul dance scene. The White Stripes Candy Cane Children / Story Of The Magi - Silent Night XL Recordings WSXMAS 1 (2002) Christmas cheer from Jack & Meg White aka The White Stripes.  The A side was recorded 1998 and the  flip side 2002, both at Third Man Studios, Soutwest Detroit.   This UK version of the 45 was limited to 1000 copies. The US version was pressed on white vinyl.  The 45 was re-released on Third Man Records in 2010. The White Stripes wish you and yours a wonderful Christmas this, and every year.
