Frankie Ford - Sea Cruise

Frankie Ford
London 45-HL 8850 (1959)
Sea Cruise / Roberta

This song was written and originally recorded by Huey "Piano" Smith in 1959 and featured sound effects of ship bells and horns combined with a great bit of boogie-woogie piano played in a manner that has been credited as influencing the future ska sound (although that original version of the song was not released until 1971).

This version was released in 1959 and featured Frankie Ford's voice being overdubbed on Huey's backing track. Released in the US on the Ace label the single went on to sell over a million copies.

As with a lot of US singles, this was issued in the UK on the London label. The copy in my collection is a "tri" centre disc, the more common copy has a "round" push out centre.
