Hits From The Seekers EP
Columbia SEG 8496 (1966)
The Seekers were an Australian folk-influenced pop group originally formed in Melbourne in 1962. They were the first Australian pop music group to achieve major chart and sales success in the United Kingdom and the United States. They were especially popular during the 1960s, with their best-known configuration of Judith Durham on vocals, piano, and tambourine; Athol Guy on double bass and vocals; Keith Potger on twelve-string guitar, banjo, and vocals; and Bruce Woodley on guitar, mandolin, banjo, and vocals.
Although they were though as being too pop to be considered strictly folk and too folk to be rock this this not affect their popularity with the record buying public.
This EP released in 1966 features four tracks that had all been previously released on 45s. Someday, One Day was written by Paul Simon, The Carnival Is Over was written by Tom Springfield from the Aussie folk group The Springfields and the other two tracks were traditional songs arranged in The Seekers style.
In February 1968 Judith Durham announced she was leaving the group to pursue a solo career. A final concert was performed on 7 July 1968 and was broadcast on the BBC as "Farewell To The Seekers". Following the concert the group disbanded.
